Deepfake Video Falsely Claims Tarique Rahman Announced BB-Approved 18,300 Taka Investment Scheme
Recently, a video of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been circulated on social media claiming a minimum investment scheme of 18,300 Taka approved by Bangladesh Bank.

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation reveals that Tarique Rahman did not announce any minimum investment scheme of 18,300 Taka approved by Bangladesh Bank. In reality, this deepfake video was created by adding a different audio clip to an old video of Tarique Rahman with the help of AI technology.
Investigating this matter, a video published on February 09 on Tarique Rahman’s Facebook page was found. The discussed video bears a partial resemblance to that video.
Observing the video, it is seen that in the video Tarique Rahman gives a speech containing various electoral promises ahead of the February 12 election.
In that video, Tarique Rahman was not seen giving any speech regarding this alleged investment scheme.
A part of that video was used in the discussed video. An audio clip related to investment in Bangladesh Bank, created with the help of artificial intelligence or AI technology, has been added to it, and the movement of Tarique Rahman’s face and lips has been synchronized with the separately added audio with the help of deepfake technology.
Besides, no information regarding the discussed investment scheme was found on the website of Bangladesh Bank. However, there are a few warning messages regarding investment, lending, etc., on their notice board. In these warning notices, people are asked to be cautious about fake apps and websites, and it is mentioned that Bangladesh Bank has no affiliation with them.
Moreover, the page named Ivan Jose Diaz that circulated the discussed post is not a Bangladeshi page. The page is being managed from Vietnam and Algeria. No affiliation with Bangladesh Bank was found with the other posts and information on the page.
Therefore, the video circulated with the claim of an investment scheme approved by Bangladesh Bank announced by Tarique Rahman is AI-generated.
