Fact Check

Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation found that the photo in question is not of a building damaged in the November 21st earthquake in Bangladesh, nor is it a photo from Bangladesh. In fact, a photo of a building damaged in India during the 2016 earthquake that struck India and Bangladesh has been circulated with this claim.

In the course of this investigation, the same picture was found in a report published on January 04, 2016, on the website of the international news agency Reuters.

The report states that the photo shows a residential building damaged by the earthquake at that time in Imphal, the capital of Manipur state in India.

Reuters reported that the $6.8$ magnitude earthquake was also felt in Bangladesh. Multiple people died in both countries due to the incident.

A Euro News report also published a video of the same location at that time.

Therefore, the photo of a building damaged in India during the 2016 earthquake has been circulated as an image of a building damaged in the November 21 earthquake in Bangladesh, which is false.
