AI Video circulated claiming to be Donald Trump’s statement on Bangladesh’s upcoming election

Recently, a video has been circulating on social media with the claim: “There must be an election in Bangladesh with the participation of all political parties. We have made a decision regarding Bangladesh and it will be implemented quickly. We do not want any fundamentalism or any party supporting militancy to come to power in Bangladesh.”

Fact-check

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation reveals that the video circulated, claiming to be a statement by US President Donald Trump about Bangladesh’s upcoming election, is not real. In reality, the discussed video was created and circulated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology with one of his photos as input.

If Donald Trump had made the discussed statement, it would naturally be covered by the media. However, a relevant keyword search did not yield any information regarding this from national or international media or any reliable source.Further investigation found a report published on November 1, 2017, on The New York Times website titled ‘Trump’s Official Portrait Resembles a Smiley Emoji‘. The attire and background in that image are observed to match the attire and background in the circulated video.

To further verify the matter, Rumor Scanner tested the video on the AI-assisted content detection tool ‘Hive Detect‘. The analysis showed a 99.8 percent probability that the video was created with AI.

This indicates that the discussed video was created by editing an old photo of Donald Trump with the assistance of AI technology.

Therefore, a deepfake video of Donald Trump is being circulated with the claim that it is real; which is false.
