AI video circulated claiming to show the arrest of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife

On January 3, the United States launched a massive attack on the South American country of Venezuela. Following this, reports emerged that the country’s President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were detained by the U.S. Special Forces unit, Delta Force.

In this context, a video has been spreading on the internet claiming to show the moment U.S. Delta Force units arrested President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

Fact-check

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation found that the video claiming to show U.S. Delta Force arresting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife is fake. The footage is actually AI-generated and is being falsely circulated as a real-life event.

At the beginning of the investigation, no information regarding the authenticity of the video was found from any credible media or official sources.

Subsequently, the video was verified using several AI detectors, which indicated that the video has a 91.9% to 99.9% probability of being AI-generated.

The Rumor Scanner team also investigated the creator of the video. The search led to a video published on January 3 from an Instagram channel named ‘adeeoficial’. That video is identical to the one in question.

Upon observing the account, it was found to contain multiple AI-generated videos (1, 2, 3). Furthermore, the account’s bio explicitly states that the owner is an AI content creator.

Therefore, the video is not real.

Notably, a different video of Maduro being arrested was found on the international media outlet The Guardian’s YouTube channel on January 4. That footage does not match the video in question.

Thus, an AI-generated video is being circulated as the real scene of the arrest of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife, which is misleading.
