Video of an Indian youth’s theft circulated as an illegal Bangladeshi stealing undergarments in India
Recently, a video has been circulated on X (formerly Twitter) by multiple Indian accounts claiming that an illegal Bangladeshi youth named Mohammad Zubair was caught stealing women’s undergarments from a shop in India. The posts are captioned: “An illegal Bangladeshi Mohammad Zubair caught stealing women’s undergarments from a shop. These illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingyas are heavily contributing to all type of crimes in India.”

Fact-check
Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the youth in the circulated video is not a Bangladeshi citizen, and his name is not Mohammad Zubair. In reality, an old video of an Indian youth named Sahil stealing women’s undergarments is being circulated with this false claim.
An investigation into the matter revealed the exact same video in a post titled “Boy caught robbing bra and panties of women. Part 1,” published on April 17, 2024, by user Pratik_tayde in the “TotalKalesh” subreddit.
A pinned comment by a moderator on that post explains the context shared by the original poster: “A minor boy in his area was caught stealing young women’s undergarments. Many women had noticed their undergarments going missing over time. A few days ago, locals questioned the suspicious boy, and the matter came to light. Additionally, two other girls were involved with him in the same activity.”
The comment also included links to two other parts of the video. Based on the second part of the video, it was learned that the accused boy’s name is Sahil and his father’s name is Santosh. However, no information was found regarding the specific location in India where the incident occurred.
This same video had been circulated with similar false claims previously. At that time, the Indian fact-checking organization D-Intent Data performed a fact-check on the claim. Their X post confirms that the claim is false.
Therefore, the video of an Indian youth named Sahil stealing women’s undergarments is being presented as the actions of a Bangladeshi youth named Zubair; the claim is completely false.
