Fact-check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation reveals that the image claiming the Indian flag was painted on the road at the India-Bangladesh border is not real. In fact, an image created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology is being circulated as a real incident.

If the Indian national flag were painted on the road within the Bangladeshi side of the India-Bangladesh border, it would likely have been reported in the media of both India and Bangladesh. However, no news or information supporting the claim could be found in the media or any reliable relevant sources.

In the investigation of the viral image, a real photograph of the Benapole-Petrapole port was found. Several discrepancies were noted when comparing that photo with the viral one; for example, the real photo shows a road divider at the Benapole section in Bangladesh, which is absent in the viral image. Additionally, upon entering India after passing through Benapole port, there is a large gate and welcome signboard similar to the one on the Bangladesh side, which is also missing in the viral image.

Based on these inconsistencies, the image was further analyzed using the AI content detection platform ‘Hive Moderation’. The analysis showed a 99.9% probability that the image was generated by AI.

Therefore, the claim that the Indian flag was painted on the road at the India-Bangladesh border is being spread using an AI-generated image, and the claim is false.
