Fact-Check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the circulated video does not depict any event from the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. In reality, the video shows a member of the Libyan paratrooper forces successfully completing a parachute jump despite having a broken leg, dating back to early March.

During the investigation into the discussed video, a video published on March 2 on the X account of the Libyan news outlet ‘Fawasel’ (فواصل) was found. The scenes in this video match those shown in the video circulated with the discussed claim.

The caption of the video states: “Watch | A member of the Benghazi paratrooper forces completes a parachute jump despite a fracture or broken leg, and his colleagues receive him upon landing.” (Automatically translated).

Incidentally, Benghazi is a major city in Libya.

Furthermore, on March 3, a video post of the same event captured from a different angle was observed on an Instagram account with the username ‘mostfa_officiall‘. The post’s caption regarding the video says: “A scene of immense willpower! Performing a free-fall jump (parachute jump) despite a broken leg; this is how the heroes of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces serve the country. Alhamdulillah, a successful landing.” (Automatically translated).

Additionally, the video of the discussed event was also found on the website of the Arabic news outlet ‘Nabd’. It also states that the video shows a member of the Libyan paratrooper forces completing a parachute jump despite a broken leg.

Concurrently, fact-check reports regarding the discussed video have been published on the websites of various international fact-checking organizations. These reports clarify that the video does not show the capture of a US pilot amidst the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict; rather, the video is from Libya.

Therefore, an old video of a completely different event in Libya has been circulated with the claim that it shows the moment a US pilot was captured amidst the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict; this claim is false.
