Fact Check

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation reveals that Milon Mollick, the accused in the murder of schoolgirl Fatema Akter (Lily/Nili) in Banasree, is not Hindu; rather, he is Muslim. His full name is Mohammad Milon Mollick, and he is the son of the late Sekendar Mollick.

Investigating this matter, a report published on January 13 on the website of the mainstream media outlet ‘RTV’ was found. The report states that in a press conference on January 13, RAB informed that the hotel employee Milon Mollick wanted to run away with the hotel owner’s daughter, Fatema Akter Lily. However, as she did not agree to this, Milon slit the school student Lily’s throat, killed her, and fled.

Following this lead, a video of the RAB press conference was found on a Facebook page named ‘GS News BD’ during the investigation. In it, the RAB official mentioned the accused’s full name as ‘Mohammad Milon Mollick’.

Regarding the accused’s father’s name, investigation via mainstream media sources Jugantor and Bangladesh Pratidin reveals that ‘Milon is the son of the late Sekendar Mollick of the Manda Bashkhali area in Bagerhat’. That is, from the accused’s name ‘Mohammad’ and father’s name ‘Sekendar’, it is clear that the accused Milon is a Muslim individual.

It is worth noting that the surname ‘Mollick’ is observed among people of both Muslim and Hindu religions.

Therefore, the Muslim individual Mohammad Milon Mollick, accused in the murder of schoolgirl Fatema Akter (Lily/Nili) in Banasree, has been publicized as a follower of the Hindu religion; which is false.
