Old SpaceX rocket video falsely claimed as Iranian missile hitting Netanyahu’s office

During the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei lost his life in an Israeli missile attack. Since then, the country has continuously launched missile attacks on Israel. Recently, information has emerged about Iran targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office as well. In this context, the domestic electronic media outlet SA TV broadcasted a video claiming it to be footage of the said missile attack.

Fact-check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team reveals that the video in question does not show an Iranian missile attack targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. In fact, an old video showing the debris of a destroyed SpaceX rocket hurtling towards Earth last year has been circulated with the discussed claim.

An inquiry into the claim found no specific video of a missile attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence from international media or any reliable sources.

Subsequent investigation into the video circulated with this claim found the same video broadcast on a YouTube channel named Yuksx on April 17, 2025. The title of the video stated that it is footage of debris from a SpaceX rocket falling towards Earth.

Comparison by Rumor Scanner

Following the gathered information, an investigation found a video of the same incident broadcast on the YouTube channel of the American news agency Associated Press. The title of the video provides the same information. At that time, Elon Musk was also seen posting a video of the incident on his X account.

Research reveals that on January 16, 2025, a rocket was launched from the SpaceX launch facility located in Texas, USA. This was the seventh test flight of that rocket. However, due to a mechanical malfunction in the upper section, the rocket suddenly shut down. As a result, the lower section broke apart and crashed back towards Earth. The discussed video is known to be from that incident.

Therefore, an old video showing a destroyed SpaceX rocket’s debris hurtling towards Earth has been circulated with the claim of depicting an Iranian missile attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office; this claim is completely false.
