Fake NID card circulated claiming Indian Communist leader Sujan Chakraborty is Bangladeshi

Recently, an image of a card resembling a Bangladeshi National Identity Card (NID) has been circulated on various Indian social media accounts, claiming that Sujan Chakraborty, a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], is originally a citizen of Bangladesh and that the image is of his Bangladeshi National Identity Card (NID).

Fact Check
Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation reveals that the NID being circulated with the claim that Sujan Chakraborty is Bangladeshi is not authentic. In reality, this fake NID was created using false information and is being promoted with the said claim.
In the course of the investigation, an analysis of the alleged NID image shows that the spelling of ‘গনপ্রজাতন্ত্রী’ (People’s Republic) is incorrect right at the start. Furthermore, the font used for the names of the father, mother, and the individual is not the standard font used on Bangladeshi NIDs. Also, the date of birth and the ID number are usually written in red ink on the standard Bangladeshi NID, but in this image, they are written in black ink.

Another major inconsistency, besides these, is the digit count of the NID number. The NID number in the image is 14226591132, which is 11 digits long. However, according to Election Commission sources, Bangladeshi identity card numbers are 10, 13, or 17 digits.
Subsequently, verifying this number in the registration section of the National Pension Authority upension also found no evidence of an NID associated with it.
Thus, it is confirmed that this NID is fake.
A keyword search for the claim, “Communist leader Sujan Chakraborty’s real name is Sheikh Suja!!!” did not find any reports published by Indian media on this matter.
Therefore, the NID image circulated with the claim that Indian Communist leader Sujan Chakraborty is Bangladeshi is fake.
