False Claim About Release of Yasin Arafat, the Leader of Dipu Chandra Das Murder

On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das, a worker at Pioneers Knitwears (BD) Limited in Mymensingh, was beaten to death by a mob following allegations of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). At one point, his body was stripped, hung from a tree on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway divider, and set on fire. A total of 21 individuals, including Yasin Arafat, who led the incident, have been arrested.

In this context, information has spread on the internet claiming that Yasin Arafat was released after being arrested for leading the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.

Fact-check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the claim of releasing Yasin Arafat after his arrest for leading the murder of Dipu Chandra Das is not correct. In fact, Abdullah Al Mamun, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin) of Mymensingh, confirmed that Arafat has been in jail since his arrest on January 7.

At the beginning of the investigation, a relevant keyword search found no information from media or trusted sources regarding the release of Yasin Arafat.

To further verify the matter, the Rumor Scanner team contacted Abdullah Al Mamun, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin) of Mymensingh. He stated, “The arrested Yasin Arafat is currently in jail. The claim that he has been released after arrest is untrue and propaganda.”

He further added, “We will not release anyone involved in this horrific and brutal crime.”

Therefore, the claim that Yasin Arafat, the leader of the Dipu Chandra Das murder, was released after his arrest is completely false.
